HDR & Brightness Reality

DisplayHDR 400 True Black is the OLED-specific tier and it is graded on black level rather than brightness, which is why the number understates the panel - 1,500,000:1 contrast with a 1000 cd/m2 peak means highlights sit against true black. Full-screen output is 250 cd/m2, so a controlled-light room is the condition. What this drops against Asus's PG32UCDM Gen 3 is Dolby Vision decoding, which matters only if you watch supported films at your desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How does this differ from the PG32UCDM Gen 3? +
The PG adds Dolby Vision, a 24 Hz refresh floor and 90 W USB-C docking; this Strix drops all three but keeps the same 4K 240 Hz QD-OLED panel and adds a second full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 port. Buy the Strix if you want console support over film formats.
02 What is FRL6 on the HDMI ports? +
It is the full 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1 signalling rate, which means a PS5 or Xbox Series X can send everything it is capable of. Some monitors fit HDMI 2.1 ports at reduced bandwidth - these are not.
03 Is there USB-C on this Strix at all? +
No. There is no USB-C at all on this model - only HDMI and DisplayPort - so video and power stay separate.
04 Is 139 PPI sharp enough on an OLED? +
It is standard for a 31.5-inch 4K panel and fine for gaming. For text-heavy work, Alienware's AW2725Q packs the same 4K into 26.5 inches for 165 PPI, which is noticeably crisper.
05 What does Asus OLED Care do? +
It is the bundle of burn-in countermeasures - pixel cleaning, screen movement, logo dimming and similar. It manages the risk from static elements rather than eliminating it.
