HDR & Brightness Reality

Eight dimming zones is the number that decides this. DisplayHDR 600 is met honestly - 450 cd/m2 for everyday work rising to 600 - and IPS Black contrast means the base image already has a decent black floor. But eight zones spread across 31.5 inches is very coarse, so a bright object on a dark background will pull a visible halo of light around itself. HDR video looks better here than on a typical IPS monitor and worse than on anything with hundreds of zones. Fine for review; not for grading.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How much difference does IPS Black actually make? +
More than the spec sheet suggests. 3000:1 against the usual 1000:1 means dark greys separate properly instead of merging into a wash. In dark-mode editors and photo work it is immediately visible; in bright documents you will barely notice.
02 Does the USB-C port power a laptop, or just data? +
No. The USB-C upstream port on this model is listed as data only, so it drives the hub but not charging. You will still need your laptop's adapter.
03 Is 31.5 inches too big for 4K? +
It works out at 140 PPI, which is a comfortable middle ground - sharper than a 1440p panel, less scaling-dependent than 27-inch 4K at 163 PPI. Many people run it at 125-150%.
04 Why only 8 dimming zones? +
Because it is an edge-lit design, not full-array. Eight zones improves HDR slightly over none, but it is far too coarse to avoid haloing. Treat DisplayHDR 600 here as bright SDR-plus rather than proper HDR.
05 Does it have speakers for calls? +
No, and that is worth planning for. There is a 3.5 mm output and a USB hub, but you will need a headset or desk speakers.
