HDR & Brightness Reality

DisplayHDR 400 True Black is the OLED-specific entry tier and it is graded on black level, so the modest number understates what this panel does - 1,500,000:1 contrast with a 1000 cd/m2 peak means highlights sit against genuine black. Full-screen brightness is 250 cd/m2, the usual OLED shape. One correction worth making: the spec sheet lists 10% DCI-P3, which cannot be right on a panel that also covers 100% sRGB, since DCI-P3 is the wider space. Treat that figure as a scraping error.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Why is the DCI-P3 figure listed as 10%? +
It is a data error. The same sheet lists 100% sRGB, and DCI-P3 is a wider colour space than sRGB - a panel cannot cover all of the smaller one and a tenth of the larger. QD-OLED panels of this generation typically sit near 99%.
02 Is 240 Hz enough on an ultrawide? +
For nearly everyone, yes. The 360 Hz ultrawides from Asus and MSI cost considerably more and only pay off if your GPU genuinely produces 300+ fps at 3440 x 1440. At 240 Hz this is the more sensible buy.
03 What is 2nd Gen QD-OLED versus newer panels? +
It peaks at 1000 cd/m2 where 4th-gen tandem panels reach 1300. In a dark room the difference is modest; the black level, which matters more, is identical.
04 Does it dock a laptop? +
No. The USB-C is downstream at 15 W, so it powers accessories rather than accepting video. The hub runs from USB-B upstream, and there is no single-cable option.
05 How is burn-in handled? +
Alienware uses AI-regulated electrical current at pixel level to manage wear, alongside the usual pixel-refresh routines. Static taskbars over long periods are still the risk to manage.
