HDR & Brightness Reality

DisplayHDR 400 on a 300 cd/m2 panel does not even reach the brightness its own badge implies, and with 1000:1 contrast and no dimming there is nothing to gain from switching HDR on. This is the clearest example in the range of a certification adding no value. What MSI actually built is a 300 Hz panel at the lowest possible price, and everything else - stand, ports, brightness, audio - was traded away to get there. Judge it on that basis and it makes sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How is 300 Hz this cheap? +
Because everything else was cut. No height adjustment, no swivel, no pivot, no speakers, no USB hub, no USB-C, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2, and a 300 cd/m2 panel. MSI spent the budget on refresh rate alone.
02 Can I actually reach 300 fps at 1440p? +
In esports titles like CS2 or Valorant with a strong card, yes. In demanding single-player games you will land far lower - AdaptiveSync keeps it smooth, but the panel's headroom will sit unused.
03 Is a VESA arm essential here? +
Close to it. The stand only tilts, so unless your desk height happens to suit you, the screen will sit wrong. At 4.9 kg any cheap arm handles it, and that is the assumption this monitor is built on.
04 Why DisplayPort 1.2 rather than 1.4? +
It is an older standard, but sufficient for 1440p at 300 Hz with compression. It is another place MSI saved money - it just means less headroom for anything beyond this panel.
05 Is 92% DCI-P3 good at this price? +
It is one of the few specs that was not cut. Combined with 10-bit via FRC it means games look properly saturated, which is more than you would expect on a panel this stripped-back.
