HDR & Brightness Reality

This is the most honest HDR section on the site, because there is nothing to discuss. The sheet lists HDR10 support - meaning the monitor accepts an HDR signal - but there is no DisplayHDR certification of any level, peak brightness is 300 cd/m2, and contrast is 1500:1 with no local dimming. HDR content will display, and it will most likely look worse than the same content in SDR because the panel has to tone-map down. Leave HDR off and enjoy the 165 Hz.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is a 4 ms response a problem? +
It depends on what you play. In single-player and slower games you will not notice. In fast shooters, 4 ms shows as visible smearing behind moving targets - 1 ms IPS panels and OLEDs are clearly cleaner. That is the main thing separating this from pricier 1440p screens.
02 Does HDR work on it? +
Technically it accepts HDR10, but there is no DisplayHDR certification and only 300 cd/m2 of brightness. In practice HDR content will look flat or worse than SDR. Leave it off.
03 Does variable refresh work on both GPU brands? +
✓ Yes. It is G-Sync Compatible as well as FreeSync Premium certified, so you get proper variable refresh on either brand.
04 Can I raise the screen? +
Not with the supplied stand - it tilts only, from -5 to +23 degrees. The panel is just 3.9 kg though, so a cheap VESA arm solves it.
05 Is 300 cd/m2 bright enough? +
Indoors with controlled lighting, yes. Next to a sunny window it will look washed out. Most gaming panels at this price now offer 350-400 cd/m2.
