Samsung MRN65R85H vs Samsung UN65M80H Comparison
Samsung sells the R85H and M80H side by side for a reason: they're aimed at buyers with different budgets rather than different use cases. Both are 65-inch 4K panels with VRR, ALLM and Samsung's usual gaming toolkit, but the R85H trades Mini LED for Micro RGB backlighting, adds a fourth HDMI 2.1 port and pushes refresh rate to 165Hz against the M80H's 144Hz. The M80H isn't a downgrade so much as a lighter-weight take on the same formula, still running NQ4 AI Gen2 processing and 144Hz FreeSync Premium gaming. Anyone chasing the newest panel tech and the extra HDMI headroom should look at the R85H; anyone happy with Mini LED and a slightly lower gaming ceiling can save money on the M80H.
R85H moves to Micro RGB, a newer approach than the M80H's Mini LED, and pairs it with Quantum Dot Color and a Color Booster that aren't listed on the M80H's spec sheet. Both remain 65-inch 4K panels with 10-bit colour and 4K upscaling underneath.
165Hz on the R85H versus 144Hz on the M80H is the headline gap, backed by FreeSync Premium Pro on R85H against FreeSync Premium on M80H. Everything else in the gaming toolkit — VRR, ALLM, Game Bar, Mini Map Zoom, Gaming Hub — is shared.
R85H's fourth HDMI 2.1 port matters mainly if you're juggling more than three high-bandwidth sources at once; three ports is still enough for most single-console-plus-soundbar setups on the M80H. R85H also throws in optical audio output, which the M80H doesn't list.
30W with Dolby Atmos on the R85H beats the M80H's 20W system, though both share Adaptive Sound, Object Tracking Sound and Q-Symphony. If you're not running a soundbar, the R85H will simply play louder and with more overhead room.
Both run One UI Tizen with Samsung's usual smart-TV suite. The M80H's listing specifically calls out seven years of OS upgrades and the NQ4 AI Gen2 processor; the R85H's Micro RGB AI Engine Pro is newer but the supplied data doesn't confirm a matching upgrade window.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on whether Micro RGB backlighting, 165Hz gaming and the extra HDMI 2.1 port are worth paying for — the underlying 4K, VRR and ALLM experience is otherwise very close.
Its 165Hz ceiling is 21Hz higher than the M80H's 144Hz, and it adds FreeSync Premium Pro rather than the standard FreeSync Premium on the M80H.
Backlight technology — R85H uses Micro RGB, M80H uses Mini LED — plus R85H's added Quantum Dot Color and Color Booster.
Not really for typical use; it still gets 144Hz VRR gaming, NQ4 AI Gen2 processing and seven years of listed OS upgrades — it simply tops out lower than the R85H.
The R85H, at a rated 30W with Dolby Atmos versus 20W on the M80H.
If price is the deciding factor and 144Hz is enough for your use, the M80H covers the same core experience for less; step up to the R85H only if the specific extras matter to you.
